Nominations for the '51st Annual Grammy Awards' were announced, British acts have dominated the top categories in the nominations for the US Grammy Awards, which were announced in a star-studded special concert broadcast aired first time during a nationally televised concert special live on CBS.
Two-time Grammy Award winner LL Cool J and recent Grammy Award nominee Taylor Swift co-hosted the telecast, where presenters/performers multiple Grammy Award winners Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Foo Fighters, B.B. King, and John Mayer.
Globally popular band Coldplay were nominated for seven awards in all, and popular American rapper Lil Wayne, who won a leading eight nominations.
Coldplay was nominated for Viva La Vida, or Death and All His Friends - its first album in three years and a Big hit worldwide.
"Viva La Vida," one of the year's best-selling CDs, is in album of the year contention along with Radiohead's groundbreaking "In Rainbows"; singer-songwriter Ne-Yo's "Year of the Gentleman"; and Robert Plant's collaboration with Alison Krauss, "Raising Sand."
Other Nominations includes Adele for Chasing Pavement, MIA for Paper Planes, Leona Lewis for Bleeding Love, and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss for Please Read the Letter.
'The 51st Annual Grammy Awards' will be held on Feb. 8, 2009, at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles will be broadcast live on CBS from 8 – 11:30 p.m. The Grammy Awards are scheduled for live broadcast on CBS on Feb 8. Last year's show drew 17.2 million viewers, making it one of the least-watched Grammys and continuing the trend of shrinking awards-show audiences.
