Love Story 2050 starts off as a simple love story that revolves around two characters Karan (Harman Baweja) and Sana (Priyanka Chopra). Karan is a happy-go-lucky spirited boy who goes off the rules and Sana is a shy and petite young girl who goes by the rules. What happens when opposites meet? They are attracted, love blossoms between the two. All comes to a stand still when Sana dies in a accident!

In search of his love, Karan goes into the future, right into the year 2050 with the help of his scientist uncle Dr Ya (Boman Irani) who has spent more than 15 years of his life inventing the time machine. 2050 is spectacular, flying cars, sky-high multi storey buildings, robots et al. Karan finds Zeisha (Priyanka Chopra), now a superstar, a pop singer.

Love Story 2050 takes you on journey from the present to world that we are yet to see and experience. Karan (Harman Baweja) and Sana (Priyanka Chopra) are the two major characters of the movie. Karan is a lively, high on spirits kind of guy who likes to go out of the rules and regulations while Sana is just the opposite of him in her character. She is sweet and shy girl who abides by the rules and norms. But as science proves, opposite attract and love blossoms between the two. All was fine until Sana meets with an accident and dies.

Harry Baweja has invested a lot of money and time (more than 3 years) into this project. But the results are disastrous, Harry fails miserably as a storyteller. Absolutely nothing works for this futuristic tale. The love story doesn’t connect, the chemistry isn’t great, the songs are bad, dialogues are horrible and even the special effects works against the movie, as it takes your attention away from the core story.

The first half of the film is funny and sunny and no sign of the science fiction that people might expect to see. And it’s long too. But looking at it from another point of view does serve it as a platform where second half is built. The film post interval picks up pretty well and there is a lot of thrill, enough to make you wish to be in the future yourself. There are flying cars, robots, cool shopping malls and all things fancy. The climax leaves you pretty happy. And that’s exactly what works for the movie. The dialogues are good too. High and lavishly used SFX is definitely the trump card of Love Story 2050. Cinematography catches our attention and the editing matches the rest of the technical aspects of the film.

Performance-wise, the movie does not have as much to offer to Priyanka but she does well. Harman is the man and he does not let you down, especially considering he is a newcomer. But he needs to work on his dialogues. Funny-man Boman Irani is wonderful. And yes the robots – Boo and QT are cuttie-pies.

Overall, however, the film turns out to be just above average. For one, it’s too long and secondly, is unable to hold your attention throughout.
